Your assessment does not stay put. Counties revalue, markets move, and a property that is fairly assessed today can be overassessed later. We do not run an automatic monitoring service, so here is how to keep track of it yourself:

• Read every assessment notice your county mails, and compare the value with the one before it.
• Compare with recent sales of similar homes near you.
• File by the deadline printed on the notice if the value is higher than what similar homes sell for.
